[RISE Weekly] Godly Sorrow Results in Godly Repentance
"Godly sorrow leads to salvation, but worldly sorrow leads to death" 2 Corinthians 7
Dear Parents,
What a wonderful opportunity it is to serve our King!
Last week I had the priviledge to join the elders and some men from our church and go to the Shepherd’s conference! It is the equivalent of a Winter Camp- but for pastors! All day long we sang songs of praise, fellowshipped with the men around us and dicussed our ministries, and heard the word preached by faithful, godly men! Over the course and three days and almost 20 sermons listened to - there was one great thought on my mind. That we are BLESSED to serve our God. Isaiah 6 draws a picture of the angels in heaven before the throne of God covering their feet and their faces from the holiness of God. These sinless and holy angels dare not look upon God’s holiness and they hide themselves from Him. And yet, we as sinful and broken men are called to preach Christ and His glorious gospel! We deserve hell, and yet have been made sons and daughters of God and the heralds of the Lord. This concept has been such an encouragement and motivation to me! It has helped me zoom out, look beyond just my ministry and my duties, and look to the God whom we serve! We serve a good, glorious, gracious, and loving King and it is by the kindness and grace of God that He allows us to proclaim His name unto the earth! I hope this might serve as an encouragement to you as it has to me!
Youth is back on tonight!
TONIGHT, and EVERY Wednesday night we will meet at FAITH BIBLE CHURCH (23580 Glazebrook Rd, Wildomar, 92595)! Join us from 6:30–8:30 PM in the Youth Room! There will be games, gaga ball, praise, a sermon, and time in small groups!
Tonight is our THIRD night in our sermon series called “Worldly VS Godly”! Every believer knows that the world and God do not agree on many things. The kingdom of heaven is what is often referred to as “an upside down kingdom,” where the last shall be first and the first shall be last. Where the God of the universe becomes man, not to be worshipped or praised, but to serve and give his life as a ransom for many. Tonight I will be preaching on godly repentance! 2 Corinthians 7 describes the sorrow that humans feel after sinning. Paul describes two kinds of sorrow. There is worldly sorrow that leads to no change and “leads to death” (V10), and there is godly sorrow that leads to repentance that “leads to salvation” (V10). The question isn’t if we’ll have sorrow over our sin, but how we will respond. Will we feel guilty and shameful and then carry on in the same manner, or we will feel guilty and turn from our sin and turn to God. It’ll be a great night as the passage cuts straight to the heart. Do we simply pity ourselves and feel bad, or do we repent and turn from our sin and honor the Lord with our lives!
See you tonight!
In Christ,
Johnny
