[RISE Weekly] Ground Zero
Romans 5:17 "For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the grace & the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ."
Dear Parents,
Hello, New Staff!
In all my years in junior high ministry, one thing has remained constant. We have always had incredibly, faithful, and passionate leaders serving in our ministry! I coud do this alone, Terrell could not have done this alone- nobody could! It is through the plurality of leaders that we are able to have personal and in depth small groups, that students are able to be regularly discipled, that attention is maintained, and that students might be able to see the value of the variety within body of Christ! Every believer is built differently by God, and through having a plurality of leaders we are able to display different giftings and ways in which different people best glorify Christ! Some are outgoing, some are more quiet, some are athletic, some are artistic, some are gracious, some are strong, and all have different strengths that are uniquely gifted to them by God so they might best represent Christ on earth.
With the end of the previous junior high year, we had a number of staff retire or move to different ministries. And although we are sad to no longer serve alongside them, we are celebrating that we have had a number of new staff join the ranks! The members that have joined are Mason Dearie, Stephanie Dodson, Noah and Rachel Varnell, and Emma Smith! They are already serving as incredible additions to our staff, and we’re grateful to have them! If you see any of these new members, please take a second to introduce yourselves and get to know them!
Dodgeball Tournament!
Next Friday, June 6, at FBC, we will be hosting our annual Dodgeball Tournament! It’s a night full of fun and competition, and there will be pizza as well as a gospel presentation! This event serves as an outreach event heading into summer camp! Invite your friends, neighbors, family members- whoever! It will be an awesome night, and they will want to be there! Let’s use this opportunity to bring as many people in contact with our church as possible! It’s $5 for FBC students, but for new visitors it’s completely free! Teams can be from 6 to 8 students, and each team must have at least two girls on it, and there must be at least one new visitor per team!
All students, new visitors included, sign up using the link below!
If your student knows which team they’d like to be a part of, they can fill out these sheets with their teammates and hand the sheets into me!

Tonight we will be spending our second night on our series on the gospel! Last week we learned that God is perfect Himself, and that He requires perfection from us. This week we will look at ourselves, mankind, before God. We are going to start in Genesis with the creation of man. Man was created sinless, we were in communion with God, and we were “very good” in the eyes of God, according to Genesis 1:31. But in Genesis 3 we see the fall of man. Adam and Eve sin, they are cast out of the garden, they are cursed, and they are promised that they will die. Genesis 3:19 says “For you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”
From there, we will jump to Romans 5 to further understand what happened. As Paul puts it, through the transgression of Adam, sin entered the world and spread to all men; and through sin, came death. As Paul puts in in verse 12, “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned.” Through the sin of adam, all men sin, and through sin, all men will die.
But then Paul introduces a “New Adam” in verse 17. “For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.” Through Adam all men will die. But through the death of Christ, those who believe can be saved. Christ is the “New Adam”, the “Perfect Adam,” and through faith in Christ, the sin and death that we inherited through adam, achieved by our own transgressions, can be exchanged for righteousness through the grace of God, accomplished by Jesus Christ on the cross. The only thing that mankind has acheived is its sinfulness and, in turn, condemnation, and yet through the perfect work of Christ we can be made righteous in the eyes of the Father! Praise God for His great love, compassion, and grace!
See you tonight!
In Christ,
Johnny
