[RISE Weekly] The Perfect Creator
Matthew 5:48 "Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect."
Dear Parents,
Hello 6th graders!
Last Sunday we had the privilege of welcoming our new 6th grade students into Junior High! It was such an encouragement to see so many new and smiling faces last Sunday, and it makes me eager for the days ahead! Not only because they are excited, or because they are fun, but because they are so willing to learn! They’re in a new environment, they’re around new people, and they are hearing new things! To welcome them well and make sure we don’t move past the “fundamentals,” we are spending the next month covering “basic” Christian principles and truths. On Sundays we are looking at what it means to be a Christian. Last Sunday we covered that a Christian BELIEVES. A Christian believes in God, believes the Bible, and believes in Jesus Christ as Lord and savior. On Wednesdays we are working through the “fundamentals” of the gospel. Who is God, who are we before Him, who is Christ, and what must we do to be saved. Although these series are directed towards the 6th graders, the beauty of the gospel is that it is for all people and no one has ever heard the gospel too much or understood the gospel too well. I’ve heard it said that we need to be reminded of the gospel every day because we forget it every day. It has been so good to be able to revisit the fundamentals of the faith, and I hope that these series are as profitable for your students as they have already been for me!
6th Grade Student Welcome Night!
Tonight is our first Wednesday night with the incoming 6th graders! To help them feel welcome and to give the parents of the 6th graders an chance to get a glimpse of what junior high ministry looks like, we have a special opportunity tonight! We like to use this first night of the new semester as an “open house” for 6th grade parents! Meaning that if you guys want to come and stay for the night - you’re welcome to! You can visit for just the fellowship at the beginning, for the games, and even the sermon if you’d like to! We start at 6:30 and you can until the night’s end, if you’d like to!

Tonight we will be starting our series on the gospel! To begin to understand the gospel, we must first understand who God is. Matthew 5:48 says “Matthew 5:48 Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” This is the shortest and most clear summary of both God’s perfection and His requirement of perfection upon mankind. God is perfect, He created the world sinless, and His requirement is sinlessness. God is without sin and He cannot tolerate sin. It is because of the perfect nature and character of God that we as sinners find ourselves at an impass. To understand the gospel and our need for a savior, we must first realize that God is perfectly sinless and demands the same. As sinful men there is no purifying ourselves, there is no good works to offset our sinfulness, there is only the grace and forgiveness through the work of Jesus Christ upon the cross. We stand imperfect before a perfect God, and our only hope is found in the perfect sacrifice of Christ!
See you tonight!
In Christ,
Johnny
